Furminator: does it work?
Yes on dead undercoat, if you go gently. No if you scrape the skin every day.
A Furminator is a toothed blade brush that pulls dead undercoat. Many husky, golden and long-haired cat owners mention it because the hair in the brush is obvious. The tool works in that role. It can irritate if you press.
When it works
During the moult, a few minutes, with the coat, on an animal that is used to it. You should see dead undercoat, not raw skin. Follow with a comb for mats: the blade does not detangle.
When not to use it
Not every day on a short coat that is already thin. Not on red skin, bumps, or a spot the dog licks constantly. Not instead of a vet if the shed is in patches.
After brushing
Throw the hair in the trash, not the toilet. Run the robot after: you just released some onto the floor. A session outside or in the shower limits the cloud in the living room.
FAQ
Which size should I pick?
Match the pet’s weight and coat length, as on the package. A tool that is too large on a small cat is needlessly harsh.
