Robot vacuum for an apartment with a cat
Litter, short hair and neighbours. What a robot must handle in a small home, and what it will not do.
In an apartment, a cat leaves hair on the floor and litter near the box. A robot helps if it is quiet at night, avoids cables and has a bin you empty. It does not clean the litter box and it does not replace brushing.
Noise and neighbours
Schedule the run in the daytime, not at 11 p.m. A quieter model matters more than peak power in a condo. Power matters mainly if the living room has a rug.
Litter and obstacles
Use a litter mat so granules stay put. Put toys and charging cables away. Obstacle avoidance gets stuck less often on water bowls. No robot should drive into the box.
Which type to pick
Open hard floors and one cat: a mid-range robot with an anti-hair brush is often enough. Long hair or a rug: step up toward the docks in the Roborock / Dreame comparison. Also see the site’s robots-for-cats page.
FAQ
Will the robot scare the cat?
Usually only the first days. Let it run while you are home, then the cat ignores it or follows it.
